Different Fence Types

With so many different types of fences to choose from, it can be hard to know which one is best for your property.

In this post, we will cover the four most popular fence types: chain link fencing, metal fencing, vinyl fencing and wood fences. We'll also provide a brief overview of what each type is ideal for!

Chain Link Fencing: A chain link fence is a simple, but durable option. It's best suited for outdoor use and can be made from steel wire or aluminum. These fences are low cost and easy to install.

Benefits Include:

- Safety from intruders/animals (depending on type)

- Increased privacy

- Durability over time - low cost to install posts and materials are required with most types of fences.

If you have a big property, you may want to consider building a more substantial fence that will last decades instead of years if properly installed!

They are usually made out of galvanized steel wire and is great for outdoor use because it won't rust or rot, as long as regular maintenance is performed.

- Vinyl Fences: When it comes to vinyl fencing, the options vary widely in terms of materials used--vinyl only being one type! They're usually powder coated with either enamel paint or polyester resin coating on galvanized steel, which protects them against rusting.

Vinyl fences are also available in an array of colors (though not as many as wood) and can be installed by yourself or a contractor.

- Wood Fences: The most popular type, wood is durable enough to last at least 20 years if properly maintained!

There are different types that vary depending on the grain orientation vertical board (the more expensive option), horizontal boards, pickets, rails, etc. and they require cutting specific angles for certain installations.

Wood fencing prices depend heavily on what you choose but usually start around £500 per 100 feet and go upwards from there according to custom needs. They're usually built onto frames with posts spaced every few feet apart and then covered with either lattice panels or slats so that  you can see through to the other side.

Wood fences are available in a variety of different thicknesses, so you're bound to find one that suits your budget and needs!

Steel Fencing: Steel fencing prices start around £300 per 100 feet and can stretch upwards of £500. They're typically made from two vertical sheets that are welded together in the middle with a horizontal tube running between them for sturdiness.

It's possible to have steel fence panels manufactured so they fit into your existing framework if you don't want to do any construction on your property.

Prices depend heavily on what kind of fabrication you need but it is more expensive than wood fences since they require specific cuts, welding processes, etc.

Cedar Fencing:  Cedar fences are typically more expensive than steel, but there is a reason for this. While cedar may be susceptible to damage from pests and weathering, it will also last much longer without maintenance or paint.

Plus, they'll retain their natural beauty with minimal upkeep!

Cedar fencing prices start around £450 per 100 feet (depending on the type of installation you need) so if you're looking for all-around durability and an attractive fence that requires very little work in terms of care then we recommend going with cedar boards. They do tend to cost more upfront though - roughly double what you would pay for metal panels.

It's also possible to have cedar fence panels manufactured so they fit into your existing framework if you already  have a metal fence in place.

This is an easy option if you want the look of cedar without having to replace your entire fence.

Now let's talk about what may be some more affordable options for those that are budget conscious: vinyl or PVC fencing panels. You can purchase these at any home improvement store and they come with all-weather warranty - so even though it will cost less upfront, know that you'll need to paint them regularly as well as seal up cracks where water could seep through.

If you're looking for something low maintenance then we recommend going with vinyl fences which typically start around £350 per 100 feet (depending on installation).

They also have a lot of colors available meaning matching your house should not be too difficult and you'll be  able to order panels that are between 16 and 36 inches wide, depending on how much you want to spend.

If your top priority is durability then we suggest installing a PVC fence which will come at an upfront cost of £450 per 100 feet but it'll last for up to 20 years before any major issues need addressed so the savings in the long-run can be significant.

PVC fences also allow for more flexibility with widths: they range from 16 - 48 inches wide and there's no limit on height (so if you're looking for something high enough that even deer won't get over, this might be what you were after).
