What Fence Should I Install?

What fence?

When it comes to installing a new fence, you'll have a few different types of fencing to chose from.

Wood fencing is often a good choice for those who want a wooden fence, but might not be able to afford the upkeep or are concerned about tree roots.

Wooden fences may also require wooden posts, which must be installed in concrete footings and will need to be properly maintained by the homeowner through staining and painting every few years. Different types of wooden fence include a pressure treated wood, composite material or cedar.

The best wooden fence for you will depend on what you need and how much money you have available.

For example: Pressure treated wood might not be long lasting enough if tree roots keep getting into it - but may work if cost is an issue;

If you're looking for a wooden fence that looks like it's made of more expensive materials, cedar is an excellent choice because it resists insects, rot, decay, moisture and other things which would otherwise damage the wood.

Cedar fences are also preferred by people who want natural or rustic wooden fencing - they tend not to have added chemicals such as preservatives in them so there will be less maintenance required than pressure treated wood.

Metal fencing should last much longer than wood since it does not have any natural aging process that can weaken its strength over time. They are typically made from aluminum but can also be steel with vinyl on the side to protect against scratches.

The best metal fence depends on your needs too: If cost isn't a factor then steel can provide heavy duty protection against intruders but aluminum might work better if weight is an issue (though steel can come pre-painted).

Chain link fencing has become popular because of its low cost and relatively easy installation method with pre-assembled panels - many people choose chain link when they don't know what type of fence they would like better (wooden or metal). It's also inexpensive and easy to install.

Composite materials like vinyl coated plastic panels tend to last longer than untreated woods such as pine which is known to wear  down easily with exposure to heat and water.
